[DIPECHO Network] Different disasters killed about 158 people

Dear colleagues,

This week, three major disasters (two of them in South Asia) killed about 
158 people and destroyed hundreds of homes.

1. Avalanches in Pakistan
PAKISTAN: Avalanches Kill More than 40 in North
Forty-one people are feared dead and 13 remain missing after a spate of 
avalanches struck Pakistan's northwestern Chitral district this weekend. 
Heavy snows are hampering relief efforts to the affected region, officials 
said on Monday.

2. Flood in Afghanistan
Afghan Flood Toll Increases to 88
Avalanches and floods have killed an additional 37 people in Afghanistan, 
taking the toll in weather-related deaths to 88, says the United Nations.

3. Tsunami in the Solomon Islands
Tsunami Strikes Solomon Islands

Officials in the Solomon Islands say there is no evidence of widespread 
death from this week's tsunami but casualty figures are still unclear. 
Police put the death toll at about 30 but warned it was too early to say 
that deaths could not rise significantly.
