<p><font face="Franklin Gothic Medium">Dear friends,<br>
<br>
Varying sources have placed the toll from <b>floods in South Asia</b> at
different figures. Nevertheless they all portray the same grim picture of a
region under a spell of devastating floods. In Nepal, perhaps, one reason to
smile is the <u>strengthening coordination among disaster practitioners</u> who
have met several times through DPNet Nepal (<a href="http://www.dpnet.org.np/" eudora="autourl">www.dpnet.org.np</a>)
since the floods, in order to plan <u>coordinated response activities</u>. <br>
<br>
The OCHA has initiated a '<u>Floods and Landslides Assessments, Response and
Potential Resources Mapping</u>' in Nepal. The ActionAid Nepal supported
Disaster Watch - Nepal (<a href="http://www.nepaldisaster.org/" eudora="autourl">www.nepaldisaster.org</a>)
is continuously updating latest disaster news on its website. The Nepal Red
Cross Society is updating practitioners about disaster assessments and response
- on a daily basis. The UN Nepal Information Platform (<a href="http://www.un.org.np/" eudora="autourl">www.un.org.np</a>)
is collating these and other related information. So, a lot of networking
activities in Nepal.<br>
<br>
Please share with us information about similar initiatives. Meanwhile, we have
also posted news from various sources on
<a href="http://www.disasterpreparedness.icimod.org/" eudora="autourl">
www.disasterpreparedness.icimod.org</a>. Some of these are listed under:<br>
