Dear Colleagues, Ladies and Gentlemen,
I request you to kindly take a few minutes from your business to contribute
to the formulation of the Nepal National Strategy for Disaster Risk
Management.
You may be aware that NSET has been assigned the responsibility to
facilitate formulation of the National Strategy. The work should be
completed by April 2007.
While NSET is working in close cooperation with MOHA and UNDP to develop the
Strategy in a participatory way by involving in the process all relevant
government, non-government and private institutions and individuals
interested and working an aspects of disaster risk management in Nepal, you
may agree that there is always a limitation to the extent one can contact
all stakeholders through workshops and seminars. We have been conducting
interviews, informal interactions, and organizing steering committee
meetings and national level workshops to collect suggestions that should be
included in the strategy document. A series of sector-specific workshops are
to be conducted soon in March 2007.
While, we will try to get in personal contact with each of you and enter
into face-to-face discussion on the issue, we are also sending this email
message to you to solicit your written suggestions in case we don't make
face-to-face.
For clarity purpose, I am attaching English and Nepali versions of the
brochure on the Strategy Development process.
Please be reminded that the National Strategy will consist of two parts: a)
General and Sector-specific. And it will be a 20-30 page document. It will
be a document which will spell out the strategies - and encourage and create
enabling environment for the development of strategic plans for the various
sectors, development of action plans and programs for ministries,
departments, hospitals, service-providing institutions, business continuity
plans for private sectors.
I look forward to receiving cooperation and understanding from you all. All
your suggestions will be treated confidentially (unless otherwise desired)
and your contribution will be acknowledged appropriately.
Sincerely,
Amod Mani Dixit
Executive Director, NSET
