Dear Disaster Risk Reduction Practitioners,

10 October 2007 is the international day for disaster reduction 2007. Here
are some news items about the celebration of the day and key messages from
UN Secretary General and UN/ISDR.

This international day aims at creating awareness on disaster risk
reduction. The ISDR secretariat, together with ISDR partners, launched the
2006-2007 world campaign under the theme of 'Disaster Risk Reduction Begins
at School' in 2006 with two main objectives: to make school safer and to
integrate disaster risk reduction into school curricula.

With regards,

most important capital of all: our children's lives? Tomorrow is the
International Day for Disaster Reduction (October 10, 2007) and it seems an
appropriate moment to ask a vital question: why do we put children's lives
at risk in those places we should expect to be most safe: their schools?
