[DIPECHO Network] Proceedings of two ICIMOD workshops on Disaster Preparedness

Dear disaster risk reduction practitioners,

We are pleased to share the combined proceedings of the following two 
workshops organised by ICIMOD as part of a 15-month project (April 2006 – 
June 2007) entitled ‘Living with Risk – Sharing Knowledge on Disaster 
Preparedness in the Himalayan Region’.

1. Regional Workshop on Disaster Preparedness Plans for Natural Hazards 
(Kathmandu, 7-9 August, 2006)
2. Regional Workshop on Social Inclusion in Disaster Risk Reduction in the 
Himalayan Region – Sharing Knowledge and Bridging Gaps (Kathmandu, 9-11 
May, 2007)

The project was supported by the European Commission through its 
Humanitarian Aid Department (ECHO) as part of the Disaster Preparedness 
ECHO programme (DIPECHO). The project has a focus in the four countries of 
Bangladesh, India, Nepal and Pakistan.

Because the second workshop was built on the outcomes of the first 
workshop, the combined proceedings provides a meaningful interpretation of 
our efforts over the 15-month project period. Of particular interest is the 
chapter 'Synthesis from the workshops' which concisely recapitulates the 
important learnings from the two workshops.
