 Subject: GRIP Newsletter: First Issue
 Dear All,
Please find the first issue of the Global Risk Identification
Programme (GRIP)’s Newsletter in the attachment.
Please download the issue from the link below:
 http://tinyurl.com/4vanox [5]
The goal of GRIP is to reduce natural hazard-related losses in
high-risk areas to promote sustainable development. Its objectives are
an improved evidence base for disaster risk management and the
increased adoption of disaster risk management as an alternative to
over-reliance on emergency management. In this way, GRIP aims to
assist development decision-making at all levels by facilitating the
appropriate incorporation of disaster risk considerations.
GRIP is the Official Thematic Platform for the implementation of the
HFA’s Priority Action 2: Risk Assessment. GRIP’s work focuses in
three main activities: a) Capacity building and support for risk
assessment at all levels (global, regional, national, sub-national,
community), b) Generation of basic risk information and baselines for
Disaster Risk Reduction through, for example, the implementation of
national risk assessments and the systematic analysis of past
disasters, and c) Monitoring and reporting to identify actual progress
(or lack of it) in disaster risk reduction and evaluate the
effectiveness of existing Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) strategies.
For more information about GRIP, please go to: www.gripweb.org [6].
This newsletter is planned to be published quarterly. We will
highlight all the important GRIP activities, news, and events in the
newsletter. Also, GRIP’s newsletter will inform and provide
visibility to risk assessment endeavors (implemented not necessarily
under GRIP) that share the program’s goals and objectives. If you
wish to unsubscribe, please mail to mailinglist at gripweb.org [7] with
subject "unsubscribe". If you wish to continue receiving the
newsletter, please mail to mailinglist at gripweb.org [8] with subject
"subscribe" (This will help us build a proper GRIP mailing list). If
you think someone else might be interested in receiving the
newsletter, please mail to mailinglist at gripweb.org [9] with subject
"add to list" and give their email address so that they would be added
to the mailing list.
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
 Sincerely yours,
