The November 1970 cyclone which struck Bangladesh killed
225,000-500,000 people. The April 1991 cyclone which struck Bangladesh
killed at least 138,000 people. These numbers are from Bern et al.,
1993, Bulletin of the World Health Organization, 71, pp. 73-76.
Bangladesh learned from these horrors and has set up an impressive
cyclone warning and shelter system.
